This data layer consists of a polygon coverage (BRDPxx2D)
derived from 1:250,000-scale source materials, containing
depth-to-bedrock estimates and related information used in
preparing the Groundwater Contamination Susceptibility Model
(GCSM) for Wisconsin.
The primary source for the Bedrock Depth data layer is a 1973
map at 1:1,000,000 scale published by the Wisconsin Geological &amp;
Natural History Survey (WGNHS) and USGS. Where more recent
information was available, the USGS updated the 50-foot and
100-foot contours of the depth-to-bedrock map at a scale of
1:250,000. Soil associations data, and other information, were
used to add a 5-foot contour to the data layer.

<purpose>
These data were developed in the mid-1980s for use in an
ARC/INFO-based analytical model to estimate the susceptibility
of the state's groundwater to contamination from surface
activities.
</purpose>

The spatial extent this data layer is the state of Wisconsin,
plus a buffer around the perimeter extending 10,000 meters
beyond the state boundary.
This coverage is named according to a file naming convention in
which key characteristics of each data layer are encoded; the
"xx" in the generic form of a data layer name stands for the
2-character code used to indicate each dataset's map projection,
coordinate system, and horizontal datum. See

accuracy of source maps or imagery, automation performed by
the data originator to produce digital datasets such as
Digital Line Graphs (DLGs) or TIGER/Line files, and
processing performed on the data by WiDNR.
Positional Error from Source Maps Value: 128 meters.
Indicates the expected positional error, in real-world
meters, present in the source map or other source materials.
In general, these error values are calculated based on the
requirement of the National Map Accuracy Standards that no
more than 10% of the well-defined points tested shall be
more than 1/50 inch (0.51 mm) in error at scales of 1:20,000
or smaller. This accuracy requirement applies to maps
published by the US Geological Survey (USGS), and is
generally observed as the standard for maps published by
other federal and state agencies.
Positional Error from Digital Data Source Value: Not
applicable. Indicates the expected positional error, in
real-world meters, present in the original digital data
source. In general, these error values are calculated based
on the data accuracy requirements for inclusion in the
National Digital Cartographic Database, that 90% of a
minimum of 20 tested points must be within plus or minus
.005 inch (.127 mm) from the true (correct) position of the
map feature as indicated on the stable base copy of the
source graphic. This accuracy requirement applies to data
published by the USGS and US Census Bureau,and is generally
observed as the standard for data automated by other federal
and state agencies.
Positional Error from additional processing: 50.7 meters.
Indicates the expected positional error, in real-world
meters, due to subsequent processing of the original digital
data. Processes that could introduce error include
projection transformations or coordinate shifts, and the
application of ARC/INFO "fuzzy tolerances" which have the
potential of moving lines from their original locations,
although the offsets are very localized. NOTE: In some
instances, information regarding the processing of the data
prior to its receipt by WiDNR may be incomplete and can
